Photo of Shigeki

Shigeki Kato was awarded a Ph.D from Tohoku University in Japan. He then took a postdoctoral fellow in Fukushima Medical University and is now an Associate Professor. Shigeki joined the Graybiel lab in October 2014 as a viral vector expert to perform selective gene labeling of the corticostriatal system, dopamine system and functional manipulation for rodents and non-human primates. Shigeki’s principal research interests include how the neural circuit is controlled to conduct a variety of behaviors. He tries to resolve this issue by using genetic manipulation of neural circuit with a retrograde gene transfer vector. Shigeki reported these works in J Neurosci (2011) and Nature (2012).

When out of lab, Shigeki enjoys playing badminton, bike riding, and running. He is also loves to play with his kids.
